On Monday, the sixth generation Subaru Outback was launched in New Zealand, and the AA was invited to experience the car first-hand in a spot perhaps better suited to goats than cars – the Nevis Road out the back of Queenstown.
Fresh from announcing it would begin selling cars in Australia from 2022, the managing director of BYD importer Nexport says an EV ute is in the works. “We have a pick-up style vehicle in prototype stage,” confirmed Nexport chief Luke Todd, albeit cautioning it is still years away.
Last week, the Government announced a new Clean Car Standard which will take effect next year, requiring car importers to meet progressively lower emissions targets, falling to 105 grams of C02/km average by 2025. If they don’t, they could face fines from 2023 for not meeting the targets.
